Team Member Spotlight: Truman Tran

In our ongoing series showcasing the talent behind The Guestbook technology, we are proud to introduce Truman Tran, a talented Frontend Web Developer, avid gamer, and exceptional break-dancer. Yes, you read that right.

What is your title at The Guestbook?

Frontend Web Developer

What do you do at The Guestbook?

My main responsibilities entail creating and maintaining the integrations & widgets for our clients. Recently, I’ve had the great opportunity to work on projects for our site that are geared more towards consumers.

How did you get started in the hospitality industry?

The Guestbook was my first foray into the hospitality industry! I really dig their mission of taking on the big guys and helping small, independent hotels break free from the OTAs’ stranglehold.

How did you get started at The Guestbook?

I reached out to Michael, the CTO, via email. After a few online meetings with him and a couple other developers from the team, I was flown out to LA to meet everyone in person. The rest is history!

What do you like about working at The Guestbook?

The developers are given quite a bit of autonomy when it comes to the work we do. Everyone knows what role they play within the company, while we’re also given plenty of opportunities to grow by taking on new challenges. I also really enjoy the people I work with.

What future innovations and/or challenges do you see coming up for hotel loyalty programs?

COVID will eventually pass and everyone will be itching to get out after what’s been more than a year of isolation. We will definitely see a spike in travels and with that in mind, I can see hotel loyalty programs scrambling to capitalize on this market.

What hobbies/activities do you do outside of work?

Aside from video games, I try to keep an active lifestyle by working out regularly. While I don’t do it as often anymore, I still love dancing, specifically B-boying (breakdancing)! During the winter, I love skiing.

Favorite city?

New York, NY. Before moving back to LA for The Guestbook, I’ve lived in NYC for 8 years. While I’ll always believe that West Coast is the Best Coast, there’s nothing quite like the Big Apple.

Favorite food or cuisine?

Mexican. Tacos are my love language.

Favorite airline?

Delta

Favorite movie?

The Shawshank Redemption

If you were on an island and could only bring 3 things, what would you bring?

I should probably start learning how to farm and bring equipment for that. I would bring a couple of cows (does that count as 1 item?) for both meat and the milk (which I could process into cheese). I’ll also bring some corn seeds to grow and make tortillas. You see where I’m going with this?
